5NP Training Course

Five Needle Protocol (5NP) Training in Eugene

Learn a gentle, practical skill you can use to support calm, rest, and recovery in your community.

What is 5NP?

The Five Needle Protocol is a simple, five-point ear acupuncture protocol that supports a calmer stress response, better sleep, and a greater sense of safety in the body. It’s quick, quiet, and done with people seated together, which makes it a natural fit for group and community settings like recovery programs, shelters, clinics, and hospice care.

Who is this training for?

  • Nonprofit and community organizations sending staff or volunteers

  • Healthcare and wellness practitioners adding 5NP to their practice: nurses, counselors, massage therapists, social workers, chiropractors, and more

  • Peer support specialists and community health workers

You don’t need an acupuncture license. Under Oregon’s HB 2143, people who complete a Board-approved 5NP training can apply to the Oregon Medical Board to register as 5NP technicians.

How the training works

Our program is built around hands-on practice, not long lectures.

  1. Online coursework (30 hours). Learn at your own pace with video, reading, and short reflections. Topics include 5NP point location, clean needle technique, safety, and working with groups.

  2. One in-person day. Practice in person with your cohort and your trainer.

  3. Supervised clinical practice. Build your skills in real group sessions at our clinic, with a trainer beside you.

The Oregon Medical Board requires at least 30 hours of didactic training and 40 ears needled in supervised clinical training. Our program is built to meet those requirements, and you’ll receive a certificate of completion to submit with your registration application.

Small cohorts, personal attention

We keep each cohort to 6 students, so you get real feedback and real practice.

What you’ll need to do after training

After you finish, you’ll apply to the Oregon Medical Board for 5NP technician registration. We’ll walk you through what to expect, including the application steps and the documents you’ll need. Registration fees and Board processing times are separate and set by the Board.

Your trainer

Tiffany Petry, L.Ac.

Tiffany has been practicing acupuncture for 5 years. She became an acupuncturist to help her community grow in health, and she’s excited to share 5NP with as many people as she can. She believes community education and care make for strong communities.

Why train with Compass?

We’re a working community acupuncture clinic, so you learn in the same setting where 5NP is used every week. We believe this skill belongs in the hands of the people already supporting their communities, which is why we keep the training accessible and the groups small.
