Brief History of the MELT Method
The MELT Method (Myofascial Energetic Length Technique) was developed in the early 2000s by Sue Hitzmann, a manual therapist and exercise physiologist based in New York. Hitzmann had a background in hands-on bodywork and corrective exercise and began synthesizing concepts from:
Myofascial release
Neuromuscular reeducation
Lymphatic stimulation principles
Autonomic nervous system regulation
Proprioceptive training
Her goal was to create a self-treatment system that replicated the effects of manual therapy without aggressive foam rolling or deep tissue pressure.
